Bing Bang Jewelry

Shop The Lookbook

One of the first collaborations with the jewelry designer Anna Sheffield and Kevin Kearney, Bespoke built a complete e-commerce site for Bing Bang Jewelry.

Design and Templates

Bespoke worked together with another agency, All Day Everyday, to design and build the e-commerce site with a victorian punk vibe. The website was created in a way that it could take the large images needed to show off the beautiful details in the jewelry and automatically create the galleries and slideshows from them.  This had the benefit of making the site quick and responsive, even on mobile devices and freed up the Bing Bang staff from cropping and uploading thousands of images.  Several templates were designed including a front page, category pages, product pages and search results.  The templates were built in a way that common components could be used across all the templates which made the site really fly.

Product Pages

Product pages were one of the first items to be built.  Featuring beautiful costume jewelry, large images are presented on the page that allow the items to enlarge and speak for themselves.  A carousal of smaller thumbnails are presented below the main photograph and the entire system is built using web friendly technology that scales across mobile and tablet devices like the iPhone and iPad.  Products were grouped in to categories so that related jewelry could be shown when looking at an individual piece.  The serendipity of discovering new jewelry via these pages were the basis for much of the rest of the site.

Shopping Cart

Shopify powered the commerce system which allowed for the site to be built in a matter of weeks, even with credit card authorization, taxes, and a shipping system.  Products can be added to a central shopping cart which totals up the prices and allows for aggregate check out.  Since the cart is aware of the inventory system they can combine multiple orders at the end of a business day for common shipping or marked as out of stock when no more items are available.  By using Shopify, Bing Bang staff were able to more efficiently manage the increase of sales to their site.

Categories

Category pages were built off of a similar template as the product page but allowed for many items to be featured in a grid format.  Images were dynamically resized to a smaller size to make it easier on the Bing Bang staff so they could spend their time on more important things than resizing images.  Categories are managed dynamically meaning that if Bing Bang wanted to start creating a new type of jewelry (say bracelets for example), they could do so without any new website development needed – it just shows up on the site automatically.  This particularly comes in handy when Bing Bang wishes to create a sample sale, lookbook or favorites category.

Search

The search results pages were built as an additional layer on top of the category pages which allowed for searches to return results quickly.  Keywords and descriptions of the products were indexed so the most relevant products could be found when performing a search.  A global search box sits at the top of the site allowing shoppers to find something from anywhere on the website.
